Joseph Gordon-Levitt is an actor, director, writer and entrepreneur. His acting career spans three decades, and ranges from television to arthouse to multiplex. You’ll recognize him from his incredible work in Inception, 500 Days of Summer, and Snowden. He made his feature screenwriting and directorial debut with the award-winning Don Jon.
Gordon-Levitt co-founded HITRECORD in 2004 as a community platform that creates and develops art and media collectively using their website to upload their records, download and remix others’ records, and work on projects together. HITRECORD has published books, put out records, gone on tour and has screened their work at major festivals, including Sundance and TIFF. The half-hour variety program “Hit Record on TV with Joseph Gordon-Levitt,” which included short films, live performances, music, animation, conversation and more, earned an Emmy Award for Creative Achievement in Interactive Media – Social TV Experience. Their YouTube Originals docu-series, “Create Together”, which was conceived of, produced, and released during quarantine, was selected for the Outstanding Innovation in Interactive Programming Emmy Award and its second season was nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Interactive Program.
In 2022, co-founders Jared Geller and Gordon-Levitt became VPs of creative innovation at MasterClass, while members of the existing HITRECORD team joined MasterClass in departments across content production, product design, engineering and marketing. In recent years, Gordon-Levitt has become a thought leader in exploring the relationship between technology and creativity. In his latest talks, Gordon-Levitt examines the unintended side effects of social media culture on our creative and mental wellbeing. More recently, Gordon-Levitt has become a vocal advocate for the need to harness the power of AI to ensure that credit and compensation are appropriately afforded to the creative minds that are feeding large language models the information needed to drive generative AI.
